DCX FDU 8MW AT2

Facility Coolant Distribution Unit

The Facility Distribution Unit (FDU) defines a new category of high-capacity Coolant Distribution Units, engineered not for individual rack rows but for complete data halls/facility installations in hyper-scale data centers, efficiently cooling large-scale, high-density AI server racks. FDU offers a heat transfer capacity of 8 MW at an approach temperature of approximately 2°C with a flow rate of 550 m3/h (secondary side TCS). Advanced features include a highly available N+1 redundant pump system of 4 pumps, condensation-free control, automatic coolant leveling, leak detection, and remote monitoring of essential parameters. Designed for high-performance computing (HPC) and GPU-intensive clusters, the FDU utilizes ASHRAE W3/ W4 warm water to meet the stringent cooling needs of hyperscale environments.

Capacity

Up to 8 MW thermal capacity in a single unit, designed for scalable deployment in modular AI and HPC environments.

Performance

High-efficiency heat transfer with optimized flow distribution, ensuring stable operation under extreme compute loads.

Sustainability

Engineered for warm-water cooling (ASHRAE W3/W4), enabling heat reuse and significant reduction of facility energy consumption.

Power density

Supports next-generation AI racks exceeding 100 kW+, with architecture ready for continuous density scaling.

Overview

Facility Distribution Unit (FDU) is a centralized coolant distribution unit used in direct liquid cooling systems for large-scale server clusters, including GPU-intensive environments. Unlike traditional Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), which are typically installed locally in IT rows, the FDU is deployed outside the white space, either in a technical corridor or even outside. FDU eliminates the legacy model of numerous distributed small cooling loops (each with its own CDU, pump, and heat exchanger) and replaces them with a single, high-capacity unit supporting the entire IT zone through centralized supply and return loops. With high-pump head capabilities, FDUs allow flexible placement of high-density racks based on power availability, structural constraints, or cabling, rather than proximity to cooling units. The compact dimensions of FDU (L 3m/9.8ft | W 1.5m/4.9ft | H 2m/6.5ft) deliver unmatched capacity per square meter, ideal for space-constrained facilities.

Features

  • N+1 redundant pump system with 4 industrial pumps, delivering up to 10,000 L/min and ensuring uninterrupted operation.
  • Condensation-free control maintaining coolant temperature above dew point for stable performance.
  • Integrated water treatment system preserving coolant quality without efficiency loss.
  • Dual-loop architecture reduces TCS pressure and protects IT equipment.
  • Automatic coolant leveling, leak detection, and fully remote monitoring of system parameters.

System Build

Facility Distribution Unit

This large-scale, facility-sized Coolant Distribution unit is 4,8 meters long, 1,8 meters wide and 2,4 meters tall. This facility-scale FDU redefines cooling architecture by replacing multiple distributed CDUs, pumps, and heat exchangers with a single centralized, high-capacity unit. Designed as a 8 MW modular building block, it enables scalable infrastructure expansion in phased increments (e.g., 10, 15 MW), aligned with actual AI workload growth. The FDU serves as the central node of the thermal system, bridging the chilled water source with downstream distribution networks supplying manifolds and server-level cold plates. Its architecture supports both N+1 and 2N redundancy schemes, ensuring Tier III readiness and simplified certification processes. By eliminating localized CDUs, the system delivers extended hydraulic reach, higher capacity, and full operational visibility through integration with the facility management layer.
Fast, flexible and upgradeable configuration of pumps and plate heat exchanger capacity. From 2, 4, 5MW per single unit up to 8-10MW in dual stack configuration.
Dual loop CDU system – provides reduced pressure to TCS (secondary loop) for ITE equipment.
Adaptive flow management – supplying flexible coolant temperature to ITE.
Fully remote temperature monitoring of set point and ambient temperatures, flow, pressure and operation with full condensation control and reporting service.
Redundant pump system – Wilo industrial centrifugal pumps with automatic failover and built-in resiliency
Built-in water treatment station to keep high purity and quality of cooling medium without PG25 performance drop.
Compact build of L 3m/9.8ft | W 1.5m/4.9ft | H 2m/6.5ft.
